Christmas is one of my favorite holidays! It’s just something about the time of the year, the scenery, and of course the music that puts me in a state of euphoria. I have yet to lose sight of cherishing time with family and friends which is another reason I love this holiday. I don’t see Christmas as what can I get, well as an adult anyway, for me its more about what can I give. I’m talking far beyond the presents that brings smiles on the faces of family and friends.
When I was younger I was always excited to be off from school for Christmas break because it meant going to bed late, sleeping in late, watching as much Wishbone, Dragon Tales, and Arthur as I wanted! Before you ask, yes, I was a PBS kid! As I have gotten older the excitement for this season has not changed although my motive has. I ask myself more around this particular holiday what can I give? TIME. Sound so cliché right? But time is something I can always give that can not be refunded, that has no price tag, or that I have to hustle and bustle for.
Now, to be honest I’m not arriving to Christmas functions empty-handed, although my family does know I am the gift (but that’s for another day), I come baring physical gifts. But, those gifts will eventually fade, become too small, break, or whatever the case may be but TIME? Taking the time to be unplugged and making memories with family will be a moment in time that will never fade.
People have lost sight of what Christmas is about. It’s not about getting gifts, receiving gifts, or going into debt! It’s about spending time with the people you love, wearing leggings because Christmas dinner is LIT (we don’t want any restriction), and listening to Christmas music all day because it helps creates the “feel good” environment. It’s nothing like walking into my mom’s house and she has the Temptations playing and she is in the kitchen singing word for word with a spatula!
For me, it’s tradition to listen to Boyz II Men Let It Snow whether it’s snowing or not! It’s my ultimate favorite Christmas song, along with many others!
I have put together my favorite and must have Christmas songs that you too may love! I am a big fan of old school R&B so of course, you will get the classics as well some new school Christmas music. I hope that this playlist gives you feel good vibes and it just could well be a conversation starter around your family’s Christmas table! From my heart to yours.
